Sharing Their Strategies

The Grade 9 Learning Strategies class modelled collaboration, creativity and inspiration on Wednesday when they shared their learning from their Grade 9 Learning Strategies course with a group of LCS teachers and staff.

The students from the class worked together to create an entertaining and educational group presentation based on the television gameshow Wheel of Fortune. To prepare for the presentation, each student had first identified a few learning strategies gained from the course that truly worked for them, and created an engaging way to present that strategy. The class then created a cake in the shape of a Wheel of Fortune, and the audience participants were asked to spin the cake (with each section of the cake containing a learning strategy). When the wheel landed on a strategy, the student who used the strategy explained how it worked and how they used the strategy in their learning.

The educators presented learned about memory palaces, chunking, mindfulness, athletics and mind maps, Diigo, and Cornell notes, along with a host of other strategies. They all will be more organized and productive as a result.

The best part?  The class shared not only their learning, but also their cake!
