Jr. Boys’ Rugby
Coaches: Garret Hart, Dave Costello
The Jr. Boys’ Rugby team travelled to Country Day School for the Division II Boys 7's Rugby Championships.  Weather conditions made for a perfect day of rugby with cool temperatures and sunny skies allowing all teams to play to their full potential.  The LCS squad took to the field against Holy Trinity School in the opening match.  Within a minute after the kick off, Chris Cameron, scooped a bouncing ball and beat two tacklers to score the first try.  This set the HTS crew on their heels for the rest of the match as our boys dominated field territory and  ball possession for the remainder of the game.  Scoring tries were Jacob Kee (2) and Mitch Lund (2) with Cameron adding a conversion.  Final score;  LCS 27- HTS 0.

In the second match, our boys faced the tournaments top seeded team, Greenwood College School, who had won their division with an undefeated season.  Again, the LCS boys were first to strike with two powerful  try scoring runs up the wing from Jacob Kee. Additional tries from Chris Cameron and Adam Stainrod and two conversions off the boot of Matt Lovick were enough for a 24 - 5 victory.  This earned the boys a spot in the final 'Cup' Match for the medals.

This set the stage for a great battle with rivals Ridley College.  Both teams had one win in head to head meetings during the regular season.  The game was hard fought with both teams keeping the play at mid field with strong defensive play.  Ridley notched the first try and  conversion which was quickly equalled by a blazing run from Mitch Lund and conversion from Matt Lovick.  The second half was a equally exciting as both teams attacked and defended territory but it was Ridley that found an outside lane and scored an uncovered try to go up at the 10 minute mark.  For the last 4 minutes of play, LCS held the advantage in territory and ball possession and the momentum was shifting in our favour.  In this game, the clock was not on our side and boys finished with the score  Ridley 12 - LCS 5.

The boys are to be congratulated for their hard work and dedication over the past 10 weeks and earning the Silver Medals for 2015.  They have come a long way and have earned great respect in the league as both talented athletes and great sportsmen!  Three cheers for a job well done!  We’d like to also thank Mr. Lund who provided a tailgate BBQ twice for the boys!

1st Girls’ Rugby
Coaches: Jeremy King, Kara Smith
On yet another beautiful day for rugby, the 1st Girls' Rugby team travelled to Ridley College to play their final game of the regular season. The girls knew they would be in for a tough game, as Ridley had yet to lose a game all season long. This trend would unfortunately continue, as Ridley would remain undefeated by rounding out their season with a 36 - 17 win over LCS. Despite a solid effort from the team, injuries and fatigue eventually wore down the LCS side, resulting in an unfortunate end to the season. In their final game, captains Katie Garland and Monica Scrocchi were able to score for LCS, but ultimately the Ridley attack proved too great. Although the season may end here, the veterans have undoubtedly passed on a passion for the game to their younger, returning team mates, setting the stage for next season.

1st Ultimate
Coaches: Todd Melville, Mary Elizabeth Konrad
The 1st Ultimate team travelled to Barrie last week to participate in the OFSAA Ultimate tournament at the Barrie Sports Complex.  With 24 teams participating in the one day tournament, the day started with pool play games.  LCS went 2 - 1 in the morning with wins over Etobicoke and Waterloo, and earned a spot in the championship bracket for the afternoon with elimination games the remainder of the day.  Facing Bowmanville High School, who had just returned from High School Nationals in BC, the team lost a hard fought game but then went on to win their next one in the consolation round.  LCS finished the day with a loss, but should be proud of a 3 - 3 record at a highly competitive tournament.

Coaches: Janice Runza, Tayler Morencie
Semi Finals vs. Trinity College School
The girls were full of mixed emotions prior to beginning the semi final game against Trinity College School. Although we had been successful in beating TCS twice before, the girls knew that each game is a new situation and that they had to play hard and smart to come out on top. The game was back and forth for the beginning of the first half, with Lakefield dominating the majority of the play. Julianne Wagner opened up scoring at 17 minutes. Kaitlin Keating followed suit at 18 and 38 minutes, with Karen Collins adding one more at 28 minutes. The second half of the game was scoreless and we were successful in overcoming TCS. The girls did a fantastic job of communicating, and working the ball up the field. The final score was 4 - 0.

Finals vs. Toronto French School
The final game began with a lot of enthusiasm. The ball movement was rapid and girls were playing intensely against an aggressive TFS squad. Toronto French scored the first goal of the game at 11 minutes. The LCS girls battled hard to win back the lead and scored multiple goals in a row; Vanessa Smith at 19 minutes, Rachel Thomson off of a beautiful corner kick by Skye Nadon at 21 minutes, Karen Collins at 28 minutes, and Skye Nadon at 35 minutes. TFS scored off of a penalty kick at 39 minutes to seal the first half off with a score of 4-2.  Upon returning to the field, Julianne Wagner lined up a penalty shot at 44 minutes, scoring, bringing it up to 5-2. Leaving everything on the field, the girls fought to maintain their lead on TFS. Alexa Armstrong scored LCS' last goal of the game at 69 minutes. TFS refused to let up and scored to final goals at 71 and 78 minutes. The final score of the game was 6-4. Every member of the team contributed hugely to our success. Congratulations on a fantastic season girls!

1st Boys’ Rugby
Coaches: Peter Andras, Matt Murray
The 1st Boys’ Rugby team travelled to Ridley College on Friday, May 22 for the CISAA Finals.  It was a very hard fought match with all players on the field giving it there best effort.  The young LCS squad held the Ridley line early in the game and pressured them throughout the first half keeping the score tied at 0 for most of the half.  Then Ridley had a couple of breaks and favourable calls allowing two quick trys to put them up 12 to start the second half.  LCS battled the Ridley line again and took control but was unable to get one over the try line.  Ridley answered again for another try and convert.  It started to look hopeless and the boys held on again and again pressuring in deep Ridley territory. It was 19 to 0 until the final 20 minutes.  LCS took the ball deep into Ridley territory and lost possession giving Ridley another lucky break finding a hole in the LCS defence and running in another try. The try was converted putting the score at 26 to 0. LCS took over the game and pressured the Ridley defence until the very end of the game.  Andrew Maltman forced one over immediately following an Ben McShane converted it.  The boys pressured again working the Ridley defence back and forth across the pitch putting pressure on to the very end.  Logan Ball had a series of beautiful runs and put the score at 26 to 12 in the dying minutes of play.  Will Henlin ran the sidelines taking back territory with his speed and Tavis Simms had a 40 yard run brining the try line within reach again only to have Ridley kick deep again putting the LCS team back beyond centre. Ben McShane had an awesome quick restart that almost scored another try immediately following the last attempt. The score does not imply the close battle that it was! It was anyone's game and Ridley came out on top.  It will certainly be a game to remember for a long time leaving the boys hungry for revenge next season.
