Volunteering in the Community

Lakefield College School students Adam '16 and Sophie Milburn '18 were honoured this week at the Ontario Volunteer Service Awards ceremony in Peterborough. Adam and Sophie received Youth Service awards from Jeff Leal, Ontario's Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, for their ongoing commitment to volunteer service at Lang Pioneer Village, a living history museum located near the village of Keene, south of Lakefield.  The museum uses historical buildings to recreate life in the Peterborough area in the 1800s.

Adam and Sophie have been volunteering at Lang for a number of years in different capacities, including historical interpreting at the many pioneer houses, including their great-great-grandparents' home, and working in places like the school house and the Keene Hotel. Like all volunteers, they are always dressed in pioneer costumes to illustrate life in pioneer days. The village is a great place to visit for the whole family!
