The theme of this year’s Round Square International Conference in Germany is “Let’s Go Anywhere.” Part of the conference includes the Roy McComish Art Competition.
The theme of this year’s Round Square International Conference in Germany is “Let’s Go Anywhere.” Part of the conference includes the Roy McComish Art Competition.
Alan Song ’17 has submitted an art piece to the competition. Along with the art submission, Alan describes his painting as “My artwork has three layers in total. The bottom layer is meant to be an old wooden style drawing board. The second layer contains four main parts even though some are covered by the third layer. The main theme of the second layer is the idea of a barrier, difficulties and different selections of our life, so I chose to represent this idea using a maze, spider webs and tubes. The top layer shows a traveller facing the vast mountain area and thinking about where to go.
The traveller is just like us; when we are given different options in our life, our choice may change our future life and no one knows who we will be in the future. That is how people are different from each other. For me, “The Journey That Makes Us” means “what makes us, us” and my artwork shows the answer. Just like what its says, “let’s go anywhere,” because there is no right or wrong for our future life.”
