Why LCS

Welcome & History

Greetings from LCS!

The best thing about Lakefield College School is our people and the spirit of LCS - the strong sense of community and the warmth and commitment of our students, staff and volunteers. You can’t help but notice how happy our students are. These elements lie at the core of LCS and you can feel the “pride of school" that radiates from so many who have been touched by their experiences here. This pride is enhanced by our beautiful campus that provides a fantastic outdoor classroom – equipped with 315 acres of beautiful grounds, a lake, fields, forests and small village-like residences. It doesn’t feel like a school at all.

Our mission - to challenge and enable our students to reach their individual potential in mind, body and spirit - comes with a commitment to uphold our values and to ensure that the academic and social needs of our students are paramount. Programs like our Leadership, Character, Values Program (LCV) provides students with a set of tools for applying in all aspects of their lives. Parents entrust their children to us and we take that trust very seriously.

We often say that students learn in “ways they could never imagine,” and "through the relationships they build." They also learn through their environment, international opportunities and expeditions, and from teachers who know them really well. They enjoy individualized learning support and are immersed in knowledge and experiences that only a program like ours can deliver; a program that focuses on educating the whole student.

Encouraging rigour, developing resourcefulness and building resiliency are key aspects of our program. If our goal is to prepare our students for university and success in life, then there is no better place to experience challenge, success, and failure than here.

We are so proud of our graduates who have received offers of admission to exceptional post-secondary institutions from around the world where they continue to follow their passion in a variety of fields. The Class of 2020 secured post-secondary placements across North America and Europe, while also receiving offers totalling $1.98 million in scholarships and other funding.  Our hope is that all of our students maintain their hunger and curiosity for learning throughout their lifetime and that they continue to cultivate their love of the outdoors and appreciation for nature and our environment.

If you are new to LCS, we invite you to take a video tour while browsing our website, and then come visit us to see for yourself why LCS is like no other boarding school.

If you are a graduate or a long-time friend of The Grove, we hope that you will come back for a visit. We are always happy to reconnect.
We invite you to hear for yourself why our students love it here. This video by alumnus Ryan Lee '12 captures the sentiments of one of our boarders - experiences many students share - expressing what he most values about living at The Grove. Enjoy!
