Bell Let's Talk

By Janice Runza

Bell “Let's Talk Day” is a community mental health initiative that aims to raise mental health awareness, reduce stigma and improve access to programs and services that support people living with mental health issues. On January 27, 2016, Sarah Nicole Elliott and Emily Hanson (Students-in-Charge of Mental Health) heightened awareness of the event through a chapel presentation and by handing out wristbands, pins and the sale of special event mugs (“mugs of hugs”). Thanks to our Lakefield College School community, staff and students raised a total of $700 for our local Peterborough- Canadian Mental Health Association (CHMA). A cheque was presented to Jack Veitch (CMHA health promoter and educator) in Chapel on Tuesday, March 8.

Thank you to all those who donated to our local CMHA who continue to champion for greater awareness, education and access to health services for those experiencing mental health challenges. A special thank you to Emily Hansen, Sarah Nicole Elliot and Kirsten Johnston (LCS Guidance) for contributing to the success of this event.
