The Drowsy Chaperone

By Geoff Bemrose

This year's fall musical The Drowsy Chaperone was phenomenal.  After two and a half months of hard work, the cast and crew played to four very appreciative and packed houses.  The energy and buzz around this production was excellent and many members of the wider community came out to see the show.  We would like to thank everyone for their wonderful support of this production and we are looking forward to seeing you in the audience for the Spring Play.

About the show:
The Drowsy Chaperone is a parody of 1920s musicals that had outrageous, stereotypical characters, toe-tapping music and large production numbers. It was written in Toronto for the bachelor party of the real-life Robert Martin and Janet Van De Graff. It eventually made it to Broadway in 2006 and won five Tony Awards! Its tongue-in-cheek satirical style led by the lovable Man in the Chair, ridicules classic Broadway shows and allows the audience to become part of the joke by breaking the “fourth wall.”  Above all, it is a comedy. Just like the Man in the Chair, we are all looking for a chance to escape from everyday life and to be taken to another world…if only for a short time.
