Home Away From Home

Helping to create a sense of home, away from home, for our student boarders is possible through a number of opportunities.  Whether you choose to host a boarding student or send a care package, a small gesture can go a long way to recreating the comforts of home for our students.

List of 2 items.

  • Hosting a Boarding Student

Opening your home to a boarding student can be a rewarding and enriching experience, and also provides support to students who may feel homesick or even just crave some "home" cooking.

Whether you host a boarding student for a dinner or a long weekend, your generosity will be repaid through meeting, and learning from, students who come from all over the world and through knowing you have helped someone feel better. New friendships can grow that will span years, and even oceans.

There are several ways to host a student. You can host a group of students for a dinner. You can host a student for a weekend. (You need not live close by - students can get transportation to Toronto, Montreal or other locations.) Or perhaps you can offer your kitchen space to students who just miss being able to cook. This becomes especially important when students want to share their culinary skills during the Walk Around the World.

Hosting may take the form of a one-time commitment (e.g. a one-time dinner), or a longer term commitment (e.g. offering to be a student's home away from home for multiple LCS long weekends.) If you host once, you are not committed to hosting again.

  • Student Care Packages

Having children away at boarding school can be tough on moms, dads, grandparents and friends sometimes. You know they are having a great time at LCS, but there are moments when you wish you could be closer. Sometimes you'd like to drop off a food parcel, gift or taste of home.

    Well now you can!
We will work together with the local shops in the village of Lakefield, and build a gift package on your behalf and deliver it to your child at LCS through the Student Care Package Program.
