Beyond the Class
The Ondaatje and Irving Expeditions
|Lakefield College School is fortunate to be able to offer adventure expeditions for senior students. The expedition groups are small, and positions on the expedition are earned through a competitive selection process.|
The expeditions provide students with an opportunity to travel into remote regions of Canada and the world. These challenging expeditions range from canoe tripping in the Yukon and Northwest Territories to rafting in Nepal or climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Students who are offered a position on an expedition team must be willing to research the history and geography of the route beforehand, and to prepare a journal and slide presentation after the trip.
International travel into remote regions of Canada is difficult, and for many students the cost is prohibitive. Lakefield College School is able to partially subsidize the expedition cost for students due to the generous assistance given to the school by individuals and families like the Irving and Ondaatje families, who support LakefieldCollege School's commitment to outdoor education.
