A Message from Anne-Marie Kee, Head of School and Foundation

What remains constant in a crisis? We asked this question in March 2020 when our world and our school changed swiftly and dramatically. In the weeks that followed, we discovered the answer to this question through a myriad of ways to be true to our mission and values in a remote setting.

Our students found new ways to inspire us. They stepped up with creativity and resolve as they adapted to continue their learning, strengthen their bonds, and keep their community intact. They showed us that they are indeed teenagers who care, connect, and contribute through their response to the events around the world and in their own communities, the gratitude they expressed to our faculty, and the way they cared for each other.

As Head of School, I am extremely proud of all that's been accomplished. And while we face uncertainties in the year ahead, I believe that it's possible for Lakefield to emerge from this period of crisis, stronger than ever before. Through creativity, determination, and a collective resolve we will not only weather this storm, but we will position Lakefield for another 150 years of challenging and enabling students to reach their individual potential in mind, body, and spirit.
All of our work and every decision we make is focused on two essential priorities:
  • Ensuring that we uphold the highest standard of community health and wellbeing.
  • Fulfilling the promise of our mission as a school uniquely committed to challenging and enabling students — whether day or boarding — to reach their individual potential in mind, body and spirit through authentic learning, being outdoors every day and a powerful and embracing sense of community.
The Care and Connect Fund is one step toward the achievement of this vision. Through every challenge our school has faced in its 140-year history, it has been the passion and commitment of our caring community that's sustained us. You've lifted us up every step of the way. And we need your support again.

A gift to the Care and Connect Fund will allow you to play a part in caring for Lakefield, as we care for our students. You'll help ensure that our beloved Lakefield, beautiful campus and enduring missions and values will be sustained for generations to come.

Thank you for the many ways you support the Grove and for your consideration of this important initiative.

Sincerely,

In 2020/21, the Care and Connect Fund aims to raise $1.5 Million to respond to the unique challenges placed on the school as a result of the pandemic while maintaining a view toward the future and continued strength and permanence. By investing in the fund, donors will ensure that our faculty and staff are given the tools needed to care for our students and community.

This will be accomplished through investments in three key areas:

“That is what’s special about Lakefield. It’s not the buildings, or the academics. It’s the ability that this place has to bring people together. We respect, support, and always look out for one another. Whether it is here on campus, or anywhere around the world.” - Santiago Paz ‘20, Co-Head Student
