1st Nordic Skiing
Coaches: Sarah Thompson, Todd Harris

On Wednesday February 20, the CISAA/COSAA Championships were held at Lakefield College School. After a challenging and frustrating winter of up and down weather conditions, we finally had the perfect day for a race. The sun was out all day and the snow was fast, making it exciting for the racers.

The LCS course is challenging because it is mainly up and down with very few spots to catch your breath; however, with the home field advantage, all of our skiers had great races!

In Junior Boys, Thomas Larson placed 1st for CISAA with an impressive time of 15:11 for his 4.1 km loop. Aidan Melville was not far behind in 2nd place with a time of 16:31. Mateo Wealch placed 4th and Marc Bossongbra 7th. The boys took home the gold for the CISAA team category.

In CISAA Junior Girls, are girls were nervous to ski the 3.1 km because in the previous race most of them had competed in the novice category, which is a 1.5 km race. However, they all pushed themselves to move up to compete and did so successfully. Chloe Thompson placed 1st, Sawsan Attyani 2nd, Ana Jervis 3rd, and Ilana Mohamed 4th!

In Senior Boys, it was a stressful lead up to the race for Christoph Goerlitz because someone accidentally took his ski boots. Fortunately, another coach lent him his boots, and Christoph got to race in a high-performance boot and he felt he had one of the best races of his life. With tough competition from the SAC boys, Christoph placed 4th, Nick Mills 9th, Drew Crix 11th and Wulfric Harris-Stoertz 15th. These boys raced 8.8 km, which is no easy feat on the LCS trails.

Finally, in Senior Girls, Anna Harris was extremely fast, placing first overall with an exceptional time of 15:14 for the 4.1 km loop. Hanna Su placed 2nd for CISAA girls, Cassie Mesburis 3rd and Nicole Liu 4th!

All of our amazing athletes qualified for OFSAA this week which will be held in Duntroon, Ontario.

Thank you to Mr. Hart and Mr. Dobson for the hours they put into grooming of the trails. Thank you to our wonderful volunteers for giving up their time to help the race run so smoothly. And a huge thank you to Mr. Harris for putting on the race and making it look effortless!
