Summer Programs: Connecting Learning and Leadership
Our summer programs offer students a wide breadth and variety of learning opportunities to enhance camp and outdoor leadership knowledge and skills, earn a high school credit, or just have some fun learning a life skill. Teachers shared highlights from their classes so far:
Stephanie Sparkman The Grade 12 Advanced Functions summer class met in small groups for a Harkness-style student-led math class where students prepare questions, observations, and key learning moments from the unit. In this image, we are working through solving a trick trigonometric quadratic formula and it generated some really great discussion and problem-solving! Having the ability to write problems down as a group and visualize them together makes for some powerful math moments. We all find this group particularly fun because of all of the timezones in it. It's held at 8 am for Elliott (Lakefield), 7 am for me (Kenora), 2 pm for Phillipp, Helene and Doni (Germany), 8 pm for Chloe (China), and 9 pm for Hinako and Brandon (Japan and South Korea)!
Libby Dalrymple In my Learning with Lakefield-Remotely Certificate learning module, "The Best Version of Yourself," students shared Gratitude Jars which we made. We also welcomed a guest speaker, fellow LCS teacher Carrie Gilfillan, who gave a presentation on "The Upside of Stress."
