Opening the 2020/21 School Year

Our campus came to life this week as our Grade 12s and new students arrived (and we look forward to welcoming our remaining returning students tomorrow!). The Grove felt once more like home as the sounds of laughter, song and activity filled our residences, fields and waterfront for the first time since we closed the campus in March. Watch highlights from the week!

After arriving on Tuesday our grads (Grade 12 students) participated in our Grad Leadership Conference, both in-person and remotely, an important annual tradition which creates the leadership foundation for the year. They had time to settle in and grow comfortable with their leadership roles before welcoming our new students to campus on Thursday. After greeting families and helping them navigate to their new houses, grads led our new students in house games before spending the day in small group rotations. Rotation stations over the last two days included:
  • Meeting Anne-Marie Kee, Head of School and Foundation
  • Learning about health and wellbeing at “The Well”, our student wellbeing centre
  • Getting familiarized with our Dining Hall safety protocols and enjoying a snack
  • Games run by our Associate Faculty members
  • House Team Run Activity
  • Swim tests and waterfront safety
  • Edsby training
  • A tour of the campus with Advisors and House teams (exploring the school block, classrooms, locker areas and outdoor trails)
  • Diversity and Values activity
  • Learning with Lakefield

This helped our new students settle into school life, grow comfortable with the campus and connect with peers while staying in safe, smaller groups. In the evenings, students did rotations of a House Kahoot or House campfires, connecting with our remote students as well.

Tomorrow, with the arrival of our returning Grade 10-11 students, we will continue our Orientation week with more discussions on safety, House games, our co-curricular fair, getting familiarized with the new daily schedule, connecting with housemates and a Campus Amazing Race.

This week has allowed us to come together and have intentional time to connect, settle in, learn about our new safety protocols and have fun. We are thrilled to be reunited as a community and look forward to all the opportunities that the 2020/21 school year will hold.
