Every year when the month of November comes along, Ontarians are met with decreasing daylight and gloomy weather. These seasonal changes often present challenges to our daily physical wellbeing routines and overall mental health. At LCS, we recognize these challenges and embrace the internationally-known “rebranding” of the month as
Movember in an effort to serve a good cause and boost our spirits.
Movember is a global organization that helps raise awareness and funds for men’s mental and physical wellbeing. Though focussed around men’s health, we view it as a community-wide initiative that addresses overall health and wellbeing. This initiative encourages awareness and fundraising through conversation, movement, and for some, the chance to grow a moustache for the very first time. The Movember initiative also supports a variety of organizations around the world with a focus on mental health, youth initiatives, and prostate and testicular cancer research—

Throughout the month, students were encouraged to move with the
LCS Fun Run group on Wednesday mornings. Our students’ efforts paid off as the LCS Movember Strava group ran a combined distance of 1409km this month! For context, that’s the same distance as running from LCS to New York City and back—well done, everyone!
Though these events helped bolster our community’s mood at what can be a difficult time of year, one of the key benefits was continuing important conversations about mental health and physical wellbeing. When issues that feel individualized and unique are discussed openly, it can bring forth the idea that we share in common more than that which sets us apart.
Well done to all who took part in Movember activities this month. Through your involvement in Movember, you are a part of making a positive difference.
