Winter 2023 Co-curricular Awards
This week, we celebrated our students’ efforts and achievements through Winter Co-curricular Awards. Since November, students in 25 athletic, art, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) co-curricular programs have been working together to develop and improve skills, work creatively, gain new knowledge, build connections, and have fun.
While we recognize individual athletes for their progress and development in their chosen activity, we also recognize the many achievements our students have made as teams/groups in the past few months.
We would be remiss not to highlight the following:

- The debut of our new Curling Team, with strong performances at the final Trent University Bonspiel
- Jr. Volleyball and Jr. Boys’ Basketball finished their regular seasons undefeated
- Sr. Boys’ Basketball and Sr. Volleyball finished 1st and 3rd, respectively
- Jr. and Senior Basketball won both CISAA Championships
- 1st Girls’ Volleyball and Jr. Volleyball achieved Silver Medals at CISAA
- Alpine achieved 4 OFSAA qualifiers
- Snowboard Racing achieved 6 OFSAA qualifiers
- Nordic Skiing achieved 23 OFSAA qualifiers, winning 4th and 7th places in combined Junior Team categories
- LCS Girls Hockey had one of their strongest seasons finishing 4th overall
- 1st Boys Hockey finished the season with a winning record this year
- Our 2nd Boys Hockey team competed against teams much older but still had a positive season, with the highlight coming with a massive home ice win over rivals TCS
We were also honoured to host many Nordic Ski events at the LCS Campus, including:
- OFSAA Nordic Championships attended by over 1000 people
- 100 LCS students volunteered to help run the event
- The CISAA Championship
- The LCS Invitation Nordic Ski Race
- An Ontario Cup event, which is the premier nordic skiing club race in Ontario
Our students aren’t the only ones who saw success at these events, LCS Nordic Skiing Coach Todd Harris, who spearheaded these races, was awarded Nordic Skiing Leadership in Sport award by OFSAA for his contribution to the sport over the past 25 years.
Students involved in our Art and STEM programs also made notable achievements, including:
- Learning to play guitar under the instruction of professional guitarist Mike Graham
- Artists in Drawing & Painting co-curricular create stunning artwork using a variety of media, which was displayed at our Winter Concert and during the run of Something Rotten!
- Over 80 instrumentalists and vocalists performed at the 2023 Winter Concert
- Film Club produced two well-scripted narratives and two thought-provoking documentaries
- Robotics Club challenged their skills at the VEX Robotics Competition
- Culinary Arts students learned to prepare a variety of dishes, including sushi, dumplings, creme brulee, and more; their skills led them to cater a reception following the final show of Something Rotten!
- Over 1000 members of the community enjoyed our students’ production of Something Rotten!
- Built and designed an app for LCS Musicals
- The DECA Club competed in the 44th Annual DECA Competition in Toronto and at the DECA Regionals in Whitby
- Six LCS students participated in the University of Toronto Model United Nations Conference
- The LCS Debating Club attended the Munk Debate on Mainstream Media at Roy Thomson Hall
