Facing perennial league powerhouse Upper Canada College with only 12 skaters, the 1st Boys’ Hockey team was aware of the challenges facing them. There were many, many moments when the LCS boys matched up well - defensive coverage, special team, and physical play. However, puck possession was challenging as any puck turnovers resulted in scoring chances for our opponents.
After some debriefing and reflections between the second and third periods, the boys in red and green put forth a much more focussed effort on puck control and possession, especially leaving the defensive zone and entering the offensive zone. The results was the the ice was tilted back into LCS' favour, with Mitch Stedman scoring Lakefield's only goal - a greasy play that was based upon just pure hard work, battling down low, and crashing the net. Great job Mitch for earning the big coat as Player of the Game! This resulted in Lakefield winning the third period, and gave the team some truly positive things to work on for next week.
