Bringing Archaeology to Life

On Friday, November 4, Grade 11 students in HSP3U: Introduction to Anthropology, Psychology and Sociology class braved the first snowfall of the season to experience a simulated archaeological dig.

Before the dig, students did research during class to investigate proper digging techniques and handling artifacts. They took this learning into hands-on application as they uncovered bones and artifacts, sifted through soil and worked together to catalogue their findings.

Students enjoyed the opportunity to take their classroom learning into a hands-on dig. This opportunity brought the field of archaeology to life and created a memorable and authentic learning experience.

The next phase of this activity for students will be to analyse their discoveries in the classroom and to put together a presentation on the specific hominin species discovered.
