Athletics Action: Alpine Ski

The Alpine team travelled to Mansfield Ski Club on January 15 for the first race of the season. All of the hard work during dryland training and in the courses at Sir Sam’s in Haliburton paid off with some outstanding individual and team results!
The School Trained boys had exceptional results and Vincent Dahm was in 2nd place and Magnus Hepburn in 5th after the first run. After their second runs, the two leaders of the team ended narrowly in 4th place (only a few points behind 2nd place) for overall team placement. Congratulations to the team! Out of 84 racers in the Competitive Division, Ethan O’Neil placed 10th, Kilian Hauck 14th, Ben Kaefer 16th, Owen Leung 18th, Magnus Hepburn 23rd (with a full spinout around a gate), and Paul Runza 25th.
In the Open Division (club race trained individuals) Matt Northey finished in 9th place for the boys, Margaux Butterfield placed 12th and Clea Yates placed 15th!
Our School Trained girls stole the show placing 1st place overall with excellent results. Emilia Volke placed 1st, Antonia von Achten 3rd, Emmi Matsusaki 4th, Alexa Vequeiro 6th, Carlota Tommasi 17th, and Mara Fleckenstein 20th.

The School Trained boys placed 3rd this week only 2 points out of second place. Vincent Dahm placed 5th, Kilian Hauck 12th, Ethan O’Neill 13th, Fritz Fischer-Appelt 19th and Ben Kaefer 20th. In the Open Division, Matt Northey held his own and placed 4th overall. The girls had a tough race with Clea Yates as the only girl to break the top 20, placing 19th overall. The School Trained girls had an excellent day again on the slopes placing 2nd only 2 points out of first again. The story of the day was Antonia von Achten who had two exceptional runs and placed 1st! Emmi Matsusaki placed 4th, Alexa Vequeiro 7th, Maja von Stechow 11th and Helene Richter 14th. The girls remain in first place as they have a lower point total overall with better placings than any other team in the league.
Looking ahead, the LCS Alpine team has their next challenge this weekend at Sir Sam’s in Haliburton at their weekly Sunday Challenge race and then off to Caledon Ski Club on Wednesday, January 29 for their first Slalom race of the season.
