Alpine Skiing CISAA Achievements

By Mr. Pete Andras

The Alpine Ski team travelled to Devil’s Glen near Collingwood for the CISAA Championship race on Wednesday, February 12. It was a beautiful day with warm conditions and the sun shining! The team enjoyed an awesome day together with many personal bests and excellent team results.

The School Trained Female team continued their win streak, achieving gold and the overall CISAA Championship! Antonia von Achten '23 placed 2nd, Emilia Volke '21 placed 3rd, Emmi Matsusaki '21 placed 4th, Carlota Tommasi '21 placed 14th, Mara Fleckenstein '22 placed 18th and Cayetana Fontecha '22 placed 20th. Antonia will be headed to OFSAA on February 24, placing 2nd overall, and Emmi placing 3rd overall in CISAA for the season.

The School Trained Male team also enjoyed a successful day and were able to capture 3rd place in the league. There were exceptional efforts from Magnus Hepburn '20 who placed 9th, Jonathan Volke '21 placed 11th, Kilian Hauck '22 placed 12th, Ethan O’Neill '23 placed 13th and Fritz Fischer-Appelt '22 placed 18th. Honorable mention to Vincent Dahm '21 who was in 4th after the first run!

In the Open Female category, the young team fought hard and all put in their best efforts. Stay tuned for more to come from this young team as there is a great deal of potential in this Grade 9 and 10 group of girls!

Perhaps the story of the day was in the highly competitive Open Male category. Matt Northey '21, the sole member of the LCS team in this division, was able to capture 1st place overall in the league and 2nd in the Championship after an exceptional race (watch Matt's winning run).
