Welcoming a Guest Speaker: Dr. Geoff Stewart

By Mr. Rory Gilfillan

Last week, Dr. Geoff Stewart, adjunct History professor at both the University of Toronto, and the University of Western Ontario, visited Mr. Gilfillan's Grade 11 American History and Grade 12 World History classes. Stewart, an award-winning professor, delivered lectures on Rock and Roll and the Civil Rights movement, as well as the revolution against French colonial rule in Vietnam. Students in both grades experienced a university-level lecture, made extensive Cornell-style notes and engaged in riveting discussion. Grade 12s also had the opportunity to ask questions about what they will be facing next year. Grade 12 student Chloe Morton, put it best when she said, "Some of Dr. Stewart's points were really complicated at first but he always followed them up with examples that helped me quickly understand".

Dr. Stewart plans to return this spring with a follow-up lecture series.
