The LCS Community on the Front Lines

Thank you to LCS parent Dr. Merrilee Brown (Sophie Gray ‘22), for your incredible contributions combatting COVID-19! Merrilee is an Emergency Room Physician, Hospitalist and Family Physician-Obstetrics at Lakeridge Health Port Perry (LHPP) and Palliative Care Physician, and Pandemic Director for Westshore Retirement Residence.

Thank you also to LCS parent and alum Dr. Richard McCall ’88 (Matt McCall '23). Richard is a GP Anaesthetist working at the Hawkesbury General Hospital in Eastern Ontario. As the Chief of Anaesthesia Department, he is involved in the HGH planning and preparation for COVID-19 pandemic. He has been involved clinically in the intubation and medical care of COVID-19 patients. The impact of his team of anaesthetists has been to develop new protocols for hospital policy and direct patient care procedures for COVID -19 as well as for staff safety. Dr. McCall hopes all front line workers stay safe. Photo: Richard in his home kitchen working on prototype model idea, using a ski helmet for scale, on how to build a New England Journal of Medicine COVID-19 protective shield for intubation. It is meant to be made as a four-sided plexiglass box. This idea hopefully will keep front line workers safer.
