Enacting Stewardship through Care Cards

Since September, the Grade 10 students have been considering the concept of Stewardship as their pillar for LCV (Leadership Character & Values). They have performed a variety of acts of community and environmental stewardship both locally and globally. Although they are scattered around the world right now, they can still have an impact as individuals and collectively. In fact, their impact could be even greater!

Some new ideas were presented and discussed during our recent virtual "Zoom Grade Time". At our meeting, we were delighted to welcome Kat Crawford, educator and LCS parent (Cameron '23) who joined us from Texas! She spoke with the group about the grave situation of incarcerated youth in the U.S. and the extreme isolation they are experiencing due to COVID-19 confinement and protection measures. In response to this difficult situation, Kat has launched the "Care Cards" project which has students around the world sending letters, poems, and artwork to the youth in prisons and detention centres. Anything that is written will be done so anonymously. Some of the Grade 10s are responding with compassion and volunteering their time to contribute to this unique project.

If any other LCS students would like to get involved in this initiative and do something meaningful that will benefit others and earn community service hours, please contact Ms. Dalrymple.
