Strength, Grit and Resilience in Entrepreneurship: Andrea Morris ’99

Mr. Moffatt’s Grade 12 International Business class welcomed Andrea Morris ’99 as a guest speaker this week. Andrea is the founder of B Yoga and owner of B Yoga’s sister brand, Halfmoon. She spoke to students about her career evolution and how, from academics and co-curriculars at Lakefield or taking a year after achieving her postsecondary degree to travel, helped her discover her passions and interests, particularly for yoga. While working for The Stewart Group, Andrea realized that an innovative type of rubber could make the perfect yoga mat. From there, she developed her vision for B Yoga and has continued to expand her business under the parent company, Mindful Collective Co.

Andrea highlighted the importance of having passion and conviction as an entrepreneur. Challenges should be seen as opportunities and challenging times can generate great ideas. She also shared an entrepreneurial launchpad, reemphasizing that an idea should start with a passion:
  • Passion
  • Offering Idea (product or service)
  • Experience
  • Timing
  • Hard Work

This experience helped students to see how strength, grit and resilience are invaluable in entrepreneurship, business and on whatever career path they choose. With dedication, they can apply themselves to overcome obstacles and pursue their passion.
