Our 2020 Graduates Realize a World of Opportunities

LCS Graduates Offered $1.98 Million in total University Scholarships and Other Funding

The closure of the school and the switch to remote learning was not even the slightest barrier to the post-secondary aspirations of the Lakefield College School class of 2020. As the year drew to a close, our students had secured post-secondary placements across North America and Europe, while also receiving offers totalling $1.98 million in scholarships and other funding!

 

As so often at The Grove, the theme for the graduating class could be “coast to coast,” as our grads are heading to destinations across North America, from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver to Dalhousie University in Halifax, and from Stony Brook University and the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York State to the University of Washington in Seattle, and south to the University of Texas in Austin and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida.

 

In Canada, perennially popular Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario was again the number one choice destination for the Class of 2020, with an amazing 18 students headed there for post-secondary studies. And our students received excellent funding from Queen’s, with multiple entrance scholarships, including the prestigious Queen’s Chancellor’s Scholarship ($36,000 over four years) and the Senator Frank Carrel Merit Scholarship (valued at $20,000 over four years).

 

Other popular destinations in Canada included the University of Toronto, McGill University in Montreal, the University of Ottawa, Trent University in Peterborough, the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University. In addition to McGill and Dalhousie, another popular out-of-province choice for our students was the University of British Columbia, at both the Vancouver and Okanagan campuses.

 

Our students headed to UBC were also recognized with some truly remarkable scholarship offers, including the UBC International Major Entrance Scholarship ($80,000 over four years), the Schulich Leader Scholarship ($80,000) and the UBC Presidential Scholarship ($30,000).

 

We also have grads heading to some specialty post-secondary programs in Canada, such as Aviation at Fanshawe College, Musical Theatre at Sheridan College and vocal music study at the Glenn Gould School in Toronto, part of the Royal Conservatory of Music, for which our student received an astounding $100,000 scholarship over four years!

 

While only seven of our grads are headed to the United States for post-secondary study, they have some fascinating programs to look forward to, including industrial design, business, aviation and game design. These students also secured an amazing total of $400,000 in funding offers!

 

Our students have also found a world of opportunities outside North America, including five students heading to the United Kingdom for study (including long-time LCS favourite the University of St Andrews) and universities in Spain, Switzerland and Italy.

And as always, some of our students are taking gap years next year to travel and work, before proceeding on to the world of post-secondary studies.
