Virtual Community Summer Gathering: Opening and Return to School
As we enter the final weeks of summer, our community came together one last time to look ahead to the start of the school year. This year will be the 142nd Opening of Lakefield College School and marks the beginning of another unprecedented year at The Grove. We have remained committed to seeing all of our students returning safely to our amazing campus for daily in-person learning. With the assistance of our Pandemic Safe School Working Group, the team has worked hard to prepare for our re-opening, guided by local, provincial, federal and international guidelines along with important research. We are excited to see our students on campus again.
Our final Virtual Community Summer Gathering took place on August 19 hosted by our Seniors-in-charge of Student Life: Valentina Boren ’21, Catie Dobson ’21, Aidan Maltman ’21 and Gavin Plunkett ’21. They were joined by Vicky Boomgaardt, Assistant Head: Co-curricular Programs, John Runza, Assistant Head: School Life, and Dean van Doleweerd, Assistant Head: Academics, to discuss the upcoming Opening and Return to School. Three key aspects of our return were addressed: safety, schedule and co-curriculars. While this year will look different, we are confident that the LCS experience will remain unchanged. Students will still participate in a rich variety of academics and co-curricular offerings with safety measures in place to maintain a healthy campus for everyone to enjoy.

- "When in motion, wear your mask.” Face masks should be worn while students are moving from class to class, waiting in line for food or unable to keep a safe 2m distance when needed.
- Class sizes will have an average of 12 students and a maximum of 18. Desks and study spaces have been set up to accommodate a 2 meter physical distance and we are also utilizing additional common spaces for learning, such as Harkness tables in our Chapel!
- We have 315 acres of beautiful, natural campus and we will be using that to its fullest potential for outdoor learning, dining and socializing, staying true to our vision to be Outdoors Every Day.
- A full range of all-community activities will continue such as house meetings, house events, paper house and spirit events.
- “Selfless is safest.” We are all in this together and each individual doing their part helps our community stay safe.
