Creativity in the Classroom

This school year has presented us with an opportunity to combine longer class blocks, hybrid learning and our beautiful outdoors to offer students dynamic, engaging and authentic learning experiences. Classes are outside more than they ever have been before! We see English classes reading and discussing outside, world language classes running dialogue circles, drama classes doing activities, OE (Outdoor Education) classes engaging in a great variety of activities and history classes engaging partners in critical dialogue.

Teachers are finding creative ways to include remote students in hybrid classes. Our new set of iPads have given us the ability to stream students in as individuals in a setting where the can still interact with their peers and class discussions, do presentations from the other side of the world and give their peers feedback on work. We have been really impressed with how our remote students are interacting with our in-person students and the relationships and class communities that are already building.
Technology is being utilized creatively to engage students in timely feedback and have them share their work for input from peers. Students are using a variety of useful tech tools to keep them connected to peers around the world, current events and building tech skills that will benefit them in university and beyond.
Students are thriving being back into a routine and have really enjoyed the transition to our 95-minute classes and our new schedule. They are able focus more deeply on three classes and the longer class blocks go by quickly with a combination of dynamic classwork and a variety of engagement opportunities. Teachers are using the additional class time to offer creative ways of delivering material and ensuring students have the time to ask good questions. It also provides more time for students to engage in more peer learning and receive increased real-time feedback from their teachers.
It's been a joy to be back in our classrooms, both in the class block and outdoors, and to be engaging with students both in-person and remotely.
