Going the Distance with Physics

The McEwen Gymnasium was home to a racetrack last week!

Students in Ms. Rogers’ Grade 11 Physics class put their learning to work in a culminating project building balloon-powered cars. Applying lessons learned about force, distance and energy, students used craft materials such as CDs, food containers, pipe cleaners or bottles to construct a car powered by a single balloon. Students aimed to build the most efficient car to get the greatest distance, experimenting with different models and learning how effects like friction played a factor in the type of objects used.
