LCS Students and Alumni Connect

Written by: Amanda Russo and Cody McMahon ‘12

The past year has taught many of us how important it is to adapt to changes in our surroundings - at school, at work, in social settings, and beyond. The instructors of our Grade 10 Career Class determined that it would be important to teach our students strategies and techniques to prepare them for an ever-changing environment.

Professional etiquette and strong communication skills are integral for success in any field of work and honing those skills at a young age will serve to benefit our students in their future careers.

In partnership with Grove Connect (our online Alumni network), Grade 10 students were given the opportunity to connect with an LCS alumnus(a) who works in a field aligned with their interests.

Through this project, our students learned the value of networking and professional communication as they worked diligently to craft polished emails to their partnering alumni.

Students introduced themselves and asked their alumni partner for career advice. This experience was truly valuable to our students who were able to ask questions about life after LCS and establish professional relationships with the alumni network they will one day be a part of.

This project elicited a positive response from both our students, who practiced new skills and established professional connections and our alumni, who offered the advice they would have wanted to hear as an LCS student.

We want to say thank you to all of our alumni that offered their valuable time to our current students. Our students expressed gratitude and appreciation for this opportunity and were thrilled to learn more about their future field of work.

At LCS, we are known for the quality of relationships that exist between and among our students and staff, parents, and alumni, on campus and around the world. Relationships are the cornerstone to deep learning and to fulfilling career pathways throughout their lifetime.

The community formed at LCS is warm and supportive and extends far beyond a student’s graduation. The meaningful relationships formed throughout a student’s career at LCS continue to grow in our alumni community where former classmates share job opportunities, events, life and career updates, and plan meetups in Canada and beyond.

Grove Connect, our exclusive online networking and mentorship platform for LCS alumni is designed to help our alumni maintain lifelong connections and discover opportunities for growth long after they graduate from LCS. Grove Connect allows alumni to reconnect with each other, expand their professional networks, and give back through mentorship and career services. Current and past parents are encouraged to join Grove Connect to help support our alumni community as mentors.
