Dalglish Art Award Recipient: James Wu '21

We are so pleased to announce that James Wu ‘21 was nominated as this year’s Peter Dalglish Art Award Recipient.

Each year, Lakefield College School awards a senior visual art student with the Peter Dalglish Art Award. The Peter Dalglish Art Award was established in 2014 by Geordie Dalglish ‘89 and Kim Dalglish Abell in honour of their father’s affection for Lakefield College School and his commitment to supporting young artists. The purpose of the award is to inspire, encourage, and recognize artistic talent at LCS by promoting promising young artists and their future contributions to art in Canada and beyond.

The recipient is selected by a panel of judges based on a portfolio and a written proposal. The recipient creates an original artwork which is then presented to the Head of School at Closing in June, to be displayed in a permanent collection.

James Wu has studied art for over 12 years. He works with a variety of media, including paper, pencils, paint, digital art, ceramics, and more. James has even created an art installation while studying at LCS, which represented one of our students’ favourite activities: canoeing.

“This year, I’m serving as the Senior in Charge of art; the greater responsibility also came with greater possibilities with the help of my peers, teachers, and the entire LCS community. I’m strongly convinced that the Peter Dalglish Award is not only an opportunity for me to donate my artwork to my beloved community, but also a milestone in my artistic journey.”

James’ passion for art began by visiting museums around the world. He is inspired by daily life when he creates art and he considers art as a means to express himself.

In his spare time, James also enjoys music, sports, and reading.

James, we wish you all the best as you begin to create your artwork for the Peter Dalglish collection. We look forward to seeing what you create in June. Congratulations!
