UN Model Conference | January 2021

By: Jennifer Browne

The LCS Model United Nations Society took part in the virtual Southern Model UN Conference through the Best Delegate Organization this past Saturday. Seventeen students participated in the event and all were a part of various committees. These committees included the UN Women, where they discussed the political participation of women; the UN Security Council, which discussed the crisis in Venezuela; the UN Office of Drugs and Crime, which discussed alternatives to imprisonment; and the Disarmament and International Security, which focused on small arms trafficking. One of the most timely committees at the event was the US Cabinet, a crisis committee focused on President Biden's first 100 days in office.

Overall, the event was a success, with Nicole Liu ‘21 winning the award for Outstanding Delegate and Victoria Li ‘22  winning the Honourable Mention award in the US Cabinet Crisis Committee. We thank our society for the time they took to prepare for this conference and their mature approach to diplomacy in the conference. We are now looking forward to the virtual Midwest Model United Nations in February!
