Celebrating the Persian New Year at LCS

Over the weekend, LCS students and staff set up a Nowruz (Persian New Year) Haft-Sin Table for our community to learn from and enjoy. This idea came fully to life with the help of Matthew ’23 and Doga ’24.

Matthew’s grandmother was Persian and the celebration of the Persian New Year has always been an important tradition in his family. This year, he decided to bring the tradition to LCS. “Celebrating my Persian [heritage] gives me something to be proud of and gives me people to relate to. It tells [me] things about myself that are helpful for identifying my characteristics and [it helps] me know myself better.”

Doga ’24 also celebrates the Persian New Year and her Mom contributed some passages to display on the table.

Our students are invited to learn more about this holiday which leads up to the first day of spring (March 21) and represents a time for starting fresh, saying good-bye to winter and hello to spring! The table captures the features of the traditional Haft-Sin tables. Students can learn more about symbolism of the table, the items displayed, and the holiday itself through a poster board at the table.

Thank you to Matthew ’23 and Doga ’24 and others who helped to share this meaningful celebration with our community.

You are bringing the world a little closer together, developing understanding and empathy through your efforts.
