Dungeons and Dragons at LCS | Student-Led Clubs

At Lakefield College School, our students have a wide range of interests and passions. The way they express themselves is often by forming groups and clubs with their peers to create an environment where they can take part in the activities they enjoy. One of the newer clubs at LCS is the Dungeons and Dragons Club (D&D Club). D&D Club began in the fall when Waylon Fioretto-Bickert ’23 and Sophie Gray ’22 realized they both loved the game and wanted to find more people to play with.

Over the course of a few weeks, they organized a full group and began to meet on a weekly basis. Waylon ’23 is very involved with the club and advocated for funding. “As the head of D&D this year, I kept an ongoing conversation with Ms. Young and secured around two hundred dollars worth of funding, allowing us to buy dice, battle maps, and the other resources we wanted, to make sure that D&D outlasts my time at LCS. Currently, we're split into three parties, and I am the dungeon master of one of them.” While LCS students learn remotely, the D&D club has found a way to continue meeting virtually via Discord. The club is a great way for students to socialize and be imaginative as they navigate different fictional realms. The game embraces storytelling and promotes creative thinking as players traverse through different challenges and levels.

“D&D is fun to me because it lets me create and live in a different world. I get to play characters and roles who are free of this pandemic, free of homework, and free of the stresses of life. For players, it lets you forget about these things, and deal with what really matters: the dragons you slay, the games you play, and the friends you make along the way.”

I have participated in both years of D&D at Lakefield and the club is a great way to have fun and meet some friends who have the same interests as you. If you love roleplay, tabletop gaming, or playing games you will enjoy this club.
