Learning and Wellbeing Tips from Our Teachers | Remote Learning

LCS has been learning remotely for just over a week and we want to acknowledge our students and faculty for their ability to adapt so quickly to this change. We are so grateful for our creative and innovative teachers who have found ways to make virtual learning as fun and interactive as possible. In addition to devising creative lesson plans and activities that translated well to a digital learning environment, our faculty created a series of learning, health, and wellbeing tips for our students to feel their best inside and out.

Remote Learning Tips from Mr. Van Doleweerd
  1. Work Hard. It’s a new mod, new content, work, and projects are beginning. This is when you begin to succeed.
  2. Stay Organized. What work do you need to do for each class? Daily homework and long-term projects? With whom do you want to connect from a class? Reach out to a classmate or a teacher?
  3. Prioritize. Based on your schedule, what needs to get finished first? What is going to take the most time?
  4. Support. What extra help do you need? Make an appointment with any teacher for Grove Time.

Health and Wellness Tips from Ms. Avery
  1. Choose activities that help refresh and stimulate your mind.
    1. Meditate
    2. Go to bed 15 minutes earlier.
    3. Practice gratitude.
    4. Read for leisure, even if it’s just a few pages a day.
  2. Feed your soul.
    1. Call a friend or family member.
    2. Practice forgiveness.
    3. Be kind to yourself.
    4. Give back to your community.
  3. Take actions that make you feel good about yourself.
    1. Choose to eat more colours on your plate.
    2. Drink an extra glass of water each day.
    3. Walk an extra 1,000 steps.
    4. Add more weight or extra reps to your favourite strength training exercise

Remote Learning Nutrition Tips from Ms. Brown
    1. Choose Nutrient-Dense Foods. Spending more time on technology can make us reach for less nutrient-dense foods when our bodies actually need nutrition the most! Balance out your favourite comfort food with lots of fruits and vegetables!
    2. Find local produce year-round. Local fruits and vegetables, such as carrots, squash, cabbage, mushrooms, potatoes, apples, garlic, and onion as well as greenhouse-grown lettuce, cucumbers, and strawberries can still be found this time of year!
    3. Diversify your food choices. Eating a diversity of colourful foods can be an easy way to get a complete range of the vitamins and minerals your body needs to thrive. When looking at your plate, the saying “eating a rainbow” should come to mind!
