Alpine 2022 Championships

By: Peter Andras

The LCS Alpine team had another amazing season in the 2021/2022 school year, navigating changes and challenges with prowess. The year started began with exceptional dedication and hard work from our athletes during dryland training sessions before the December Break.

Giant Slalom at Mansfield Ski Club

The first CISAA race of the season was a Giant Slalom at Mansfield Ski Club on Wednesday, February 23. All teams performed exceptionally well in their divisions. The School Trained Girls’ team placed first. In a field of 56 participants, they had 6 in the top 11 racers. Congratulations to Tamara ’24 (1st place), Liz ’24 (4th place), Caroline ’24 (5th place), Franka ’23 (9th place), Marla ’24 (10th place), and Fiona ’24 (11th place).

The School Trained Boys’ team placed fourth with Linus ’24 (7th place) and Matteo ’23 (10th place). The Open Athletes (trained racers) were in tough competition but the Girls’ team placed third out of nine schools with Charlotte ’22 (5th place) and Francesca ’22 (9th place). Congratulations to Reece ’22 who achieved a personal result in 15th place in the boys’ category.

Giant Slalom at Osler Bluff

The second race of the season was a Giant Slalom at Osler Bluff on February 9. The School Trained Girls’ team achieved another set of stunning results, finishing in 1st place with four of our racers in the top 15. Congratulations to Tamara ’24 (1st place), Caroline ’24 (5th place), Marla ’24 (6th place), and Fiona ’24 (14th place). The School Trained Boys’ team placed 3rd with outstanding results from Linus ’24 (3rd place) and Matteo ’23 (8th place).

The Open Athletes (trained racers) faired well again with solid results despite many missing members of the team. The Girls’ team placed 3rd out of 9 schools. Congratulations to Francesca ’22 (11th place), Paris ’22 (15th place), and Jane ’24 (17th place). The boys placed 4th with Reece ’22 (12th place), Charlie ’23 (16th place) and Javier ’25 (17th place).

Alpine Championships at Mansfield

Unfortunately, the final races of the season occurred during the first week of our March Break and therefore many of our team members were not able to attend. However, we had a small but mighty team show up and do their best to represent LCS. Our sole School Trained female, Fiona ’24 placed 11th at the championship race and ended up in 10th overall this season!

Our two Open Male athletes were outstanding and had top ten results - Nathan ’24 placed 9th and Reece ’22 placed 10th!

It was a great season and we certainly look forward to a more normal season next year with some serious up-and-coming talent for a strong future LCS Alpine team.
