Discovering New Learning Opportunities at The Grove | 2022 Course Fair

This week, our students gathered in Bryan Jones Theatre and Upper Hadden Hall to learn about the exciting course offerings available in the upcoming academic year. As we immerse ourselves in the sixth Mod of the year, we encourage students to start thinking about what excites them and what they’re interested in learning more about next year.

There are so many opportunities at LCS, and our goal is to help students be intentional in planning the path that works best for them.

Some of the course offerings they learned about this week include:
  • AP Capstone Diploma — Designed for students seeking enrichment and preparation for university. The AP Capstone Diploma provides students with the opportunity to build on the knowledge and rigorous coursework of Advanced Placement in an interdisciplinary format.
  • High-Performance Athlete Program — Students who participate in two or more competitive teams throughout the year can use hours accrued practicing playing a sport or team toward a course credit. Students will also participate in bi-monthly seminar sessions that look at health and wellbeing topics pertaining to competitive programs, such as nutrition, fitness, exercise, and mental skills training.
  • Global Online Academy (GOA) — This allows students to learn alongside peers around the world through synchronous virtual classes. Courses offered through the GOA address niche topics, such as Architecture, Medical Problem-Solving, and Climate Change and Global Inequality.
  • Advanced Placement Visual Arts — A college-level course, the goal of AP Visual Arts is for students to develop a portfolio of work based on a topic of their choice.
  • Environmental Science — Learning will take place during a balance of field studies and field trips, problem-based learning and tutorials and seminars. With its diverse ecosystems and regenerative vegetable garden, the Northcote Campus will be regularly utilized as a driver of the curriculum.
  • Integrated Courses — Page to Stage (Drama and English) and The War Experience (English and Canadian History) are two integrated courses that allow students to earn two course credits.
  • School Life Class & Community and Connect — School Life Class and Community and Connect Class are courses that will allow students to explore three distinct learning paths that converge and connect routinely; the personal leadership journey, the development of a “team”, and connection and leadership within a community. Students will apply skills they are learning in leadership situations that are authentic and have an immediate impact on their community.
  • Summer Academy — The LCS Summer Academy allows students to work ahead and achieve course credits before the next academic year, providing them with the flexibility to take additional courses or take a “spare” at an upper-grade level.
Students who are interested in learning more about these courses are encouraged to speak further with their Advisor and/or the course instructor.
