LCS Takes on a New Initiative with Canada’s Forest Trust

At LCS, we believe teaching respect for the Earth and respect for people go hand-in-hand. Our campus ecosystems and programs inspire us to be committed to environmental responsibility. In alignment with this goal, we are pleased to take on a new initiative with Canada’s Forest Trust (CFT) that will allow us to take bold action in the face of climate change to continue making positive changes that will benefit the environment for our community, and for future generations to come.

Through this initiative, LCS will help build forests as part of CFT’s School Smart Forest program. “Canada's Forest Trust is building millions of acres of Smart Forests across Canada. Every Smart Forest will stand forever under a Forever Forest Guarantee. This means that no forest will be clear-cut. With a 5-Phase Action Plan, these forests will be measured, monitored and maintained to maximize their impact through expert forest management and Indigenous partnerships.” (Canada’s Forest Trust, 2022).

As LCS raises funds to support local organizations throughout the year, our community will have the opportunity to support this initiative and monitor its success by viewing our “Forest Watch” page.

Today (Earth Day) marks the first day our students are working to build a forest. The funds raised from Clean Casuals today are being donated to the CFT. This donation has allowed us to reach 31% of our yearly target through the provision of 128 seedlings!

We are excited to continue doing our part to care for the environment and grow a greener future with the power of Smart Forests.

About Canada Forest Trust

“Canada's Forest Trust (CFT) is an ESG company that offers a nature-based solution to climate change - building forests. We call them Smart Forests™ and we are on the path to growing millions of acres of forests across Canada and sequestering millions of tons of carbon. CFT engages corporations, schools, Indigenous communities, families and individuals. Our 5 Phase Approach starts with procuring the land and ends with a Forever Forest Guarantee. That means that every forest built by CFT will undergo expert management and monitoring and will never be clear-cut. A Smart Forest benefits all Canadians as it sequesters CO2, rehabilitates ecosystems, engages Indigenous land knowledge and boosts the green economy.” (Canada Forest Trust, 2022).
