A Spring Symphony | Spring Concert 2022

This year’s Spring Concert was held on Thursday, April 28 in the Bryan Jones Theatre. The five large ensembles—Concert Band, LAKeffect Jazz Ensemble, Rock Choir, String Ensemble, and Lorelei Consort—all presented polished and captivating works for their audience of peers, faculty, staff, and parents (who tuned in virtually via a Facebook live stream).

The evening began with two songs performed by the Concert Band and String Ensemble. They opened with The Pink Panther and a song from the critically acclaimed musical, Les Misérables.

The Lorelei Consort performed four very different works: J’Entends le Moulin, Soft Place to Land, Lift Thine Eyes, and Moon River. The String Ensemble took the stage following several soloists for a second time that evening to perform Minuet and Turkish March.

Shifting the mood of the audience, the Rock Choir emerged to perform two songs, Somewhere Only We Know and A-O-K before the smooth notes of the LAKeffect Jazz Ensemble filled the room with Song for my Father, All Blues, and Watermelon Man.

Included throughout the evening were performances by Joyce Tao ’23 (vocal and piano), Emily Liang ’23 and Amanda Jin ’23 (piano), Justin Hui ’24 (Harp), Ruby Sun ’23 (vocal), Micaiah Ejim ’25 (vocal and ukulele), Felix Wei ’25 (Erhu), Ivy Morgan ’24 (vocal), and Elias Zonana ’23 (tenor saxophone) and Gaku Ogawa ’22 (piano).

Congratulations to all students who performed. It was wonderful to hear the theatre filled with beautiful vocal and instrumental notes and it boosted our community’s spirits.
