Athletics Action | Spring Season Soccer, Golf, Rugby, and Ultimate

The warm summery weather in Lakefield provided excellent conditions for our student-athletes as they competed in some of the last games of the season. There are two weeks remaining in the spring competitive athletics season and students are giving their best efforts to achieve success in their sport of choice.

1st Girls’ Soccer
Congratulations to our 1st Girls’ soccer team who won their match against Holy Name of Mary College School, scoring four goals and defending every attempt made by their opponents. Special recognition to Harper ’22 who scored a hat trick and to Sierra ’23 for scoring a goal. Next week, the team will compete in a home game against St. Mildred’s-Lightbourn School before competing in the CISAA playoffs.

Junior Girls’ Soccer
Our Junior Girls’ soccer team has had an eventful spring season. Last week, they competed against Appleby College and won their match with a 7-2 final score. Congratulations to Alexis ’25 and Tamara ’24 for scoring goals and to Tessa ’24 for earning a hat trick. This week, they wrapped up their regular season, undefeated, with our final game against Albert College. The team finished in 1st place earning the right to host CISAA playoffs on May 25. They are excited to play in front of their home crowd and are hopeful to finish a strong season with a championship win!

1st Golf
This week, our golf team took part in their first competition of the season. They enjoyed the beautiful weather and embraced their return to competitive golfing with zeal. Competing against 180 athletes from 21 CISAA schools, the team took on an 18-hole course, hosted by Crescent School.

1st Girls’ Rugby
Our 1st Girls’ rugby team pushed through the hot weather (reaching over 25C on some days) and showed their excellent teamwork skills to win three games against Trinity College School, Holy Trinity School, and Rosseau Lake College. The team had a blast and celebrated their peer, Charlotte ’24 who achieved one of her first tries against HTS.

1st Boys’ Rugby
The Boys’ rugby team fought hard in three matches this week. Losing by one try or less in each game, they put forth a great effort and showed great teamwork and sportsmanship.

Ultimate
Our ultimate team hosted their first home games of the season against Albert College and Rosseau Lake College, winning both matches. Kudos to Angus ’22 who achieved a hat trick in the first game! Devon ’23, Kaydn ’25, and Julia ’22 demonstrated some excellent layouts and knock-downs and Claire ’24 was recognized for her skillful control throughout the game.
