Hear From the Cast and Crew of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

After a two-year break from live spring plays, we are thrilled to see what our students have accomplished in rehearsing for their upcoming performance of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!

Students have been preparing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory over the past few months and are eager to share their work with the LCS community next week. With less than 7 days to rehearse before their first performance, the cast and crew is bursting with excitement. We stopped by their rehearsal in the Bryan Jones Theatre to speak with them about their experience preparing for the show.

Hear from the cast and crew:

Abby '23: “I think they’re [the audience] going to be shocked when they first walk in and see the set. A lot of hard work has been put into it and you can tell just by looking at it.”

Ali '24: “This is my first play; I’m in Grade 10 Drama this year so when Ms. St. John and Ms. Taylor told us about the play, I was so excited!”

Ben '23: “One of the biggest challenges was the contrast to the role I played previously in Anything Goes! Overall, it’s been very fun. And one of the best parts is getting to experience that since it is such a contrast and it’s something new.”

Caleb '24: “I’m most excited for the audience to experience the interaction our play has with the audience. There are times that things happen that you wouldn't think would happen and audience members get involved in it.”

Charlie '23: “It’s been so exciting and it’s really been a full-on run towards the end of all the show dates. It’s been such a great experience with the cast and the directors. Everyone is so talented.”

Eman '22: “I’m the stage manager of the play so that means that I’ve been organizing a lot of what goes on in the rehearsals, sort of organizing everything that goes on with the crew, as in delegating jobs, writing down blocking when we were first rehearsing and now that we’re close to show nights, I’ve been calling all of the lights and the sound and the lights.”

Hannah '25: “The cast is so amazing, they’re so welcoming, and they give great feedback.”

Olivia '22: “I think the set itself is a very magnificent set. There’s so much to look at and it matches the play so well. There are also a few little surprises in the show. I’m excited to see everyone’s reactions.”

Sacha '23: “The most fun parts were playing with my character…his accent, and cooperating with the other actors. The most difficult part has been coordinating with tech, lighting, and sound.”

Hear from the directors:

Dayna Taylor: “I’m really excited for audiences to see all of the different elements that are being brought together…the last two spring plays have unfortunately been cancelled due to COVID so it feels really, really amazing to get back on stage and to be able to work with this amazing group of students.”

Tina St. John: “I’m excited for the audience to experience some of the comedy we’ve added to the show and some of the fun the students bring to it.”
