Lakefield College School Presents “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”

“We are all a great deal luckier than we realize, we usually get what we want—or near enough.” — Roald Dahl, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

This week, our community felt very lucky to enjoy the sweet and silly production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in The Bryan Jones Theatre. The cast and crew have been busy preparing for the show for several months, balancing memorizing new scripts, solving technical problems, perfecting character accents, and learning dance choreography all while managing their academic obligations and co-curricular activities.

You would never know that our students had so much to balance behind the scenes because on the stage, they dazzled as if they’d been performing for years.

From the hilarious accent of Augustus Gloop (Sacha Kayudin ’23) to the posh affectation of Veruca Salt (Grace Warner ’22), the personality and charm our students brought to their roles were infectious.

Charlie Ward ’23 delivered tender and charismatic energy in her role as Charlie Bucket while Ben Freeman ’23 brought a whimsical and eccentric liveliness to his character, Willy Wonka.

The show was offset by spirited dance numbers peppered throughout the show, featuring contemporary songs, such as Bye Bye Bye by the Backstreet Boys.

Riveting, imaginative, and idiosyncratically fun, this production was worth a watch. The crew has two more shows to perform this week; one more show for their peers and an all community production on Saturday, June 4.

Congratulations to the entire cast and crew on a wonderful show.
