Celebrating Student Achievements in the Lakefield Literary Festival Young Writers’ Contest

Every year, our students who have a passion for wordsmithing try their hand at writing material for the Lakefield Literary Festival Young Writers’ Contest. This contest, which is open to secondary students in Peterborough and the surrounding area “encourages students to refine their skills, share their work, and possibly win prizes and national recognition” (Lakefield Literary Festival, 2022).

This year, the Young Writers’ Contest received over 100 submissions. Our students received honourable mentions in the following categories:

Poetry
Sierra Gilfillan-Giannokos ’23
Francesca Ilotte ’22
Zihan Jin ’23
Alana Kim ’22
Stella McAloon ’25

Non-Fiction
Harper McGowan ’22
Andria ’22

Congratulations to our student writers! To read these students’ work and more, check out the 2022 issue of In a Grove (our integrated arts journal)!
