LCS Runner Richard Hong ’25 Featured in Digital Running Magazine

In 2020, the LCS Cross Country running team welcomed a new member who would quickly (literally) amaze them with his speed, prowess, and dedication. Richard Hong ’25 wasn’t always a runner but through perseverance, he has become one of the fastest runners on the team and ran faster than over 100 runners his age in the 2021 OFSAA Cross Country Running Championships.

Richard’s passion for fitness and wellbeing was not always a part of his life. Most would not know how he transformed his life in just a few short years, from a 220-pound 12-year-old to a skilled distance runner. Richard was recently recognized for his resolve, as he was featured on iRun in an article written by LCS Running Coach, Rory Gilfillan.

An excerpt from the article illustrates Richard’s outlook on living a healthy life.

“Running found me when I needed it the most. Running changed my life. I’m not here to win big awards or care about my placements. I am who I am because of running. It keeps me away from distractions and unhealthy habits. It keeps me true to who I am as Richard Hong.”
