The First Chapel Talk of 2023
This week, our community enjoyed hearing the first Chapel Talk of 2023! Chapel Talks are one of the distinguishing features of our Chapel program. There are very few CAIS (Canadian Accredited Independent Schools) institutions that have Chapel Talks and our talks are very unique to our community’s culture. Our senior students are provided with the opportunity to craft eight- to ten-minute speeches in which they address the defining moments of their life and how these moments have shaped their identity.
Thank you to Hugh ’23 for commencing this tradition with a talk that left us both laughing and crying as he expressed his gratitude for the people who have had the greatest impact on him over the last four years.
Hugh ’23 also had some profound advice to share regarding kindness and inclusion:
“Never forget, you are not alone. If you’re being bullied or you feel uncomfortable around certain people or talking to some people, know that there are supports for you. Ryan Lind once shared with me that students at LCS go through these types of situations and we all just have to lean on those who matter most to us. Because, and this is important you want your time at high school to have been memorable and fun. And the most important person to love is yourself.” – Hugh '23

In the coming weeks, we will hear over 50 students reflect on their time at LCS. We look forward to hearing the meaningful and inspiring messages our students will undoubtedly share. We are also keen to see them find closure as they muse on the valuable lessons they learned during their time at The Grove.
