6th Annual Chinese Food and Culture Festival at LCS

On January 21, 2023, we celebrated our 6th annual Chinese Food and Culture Festival, an event that brings students, staff, and families together to celebrate the Lunar New Year. The festival, held in Lower Hadden Hall, featured a wide variety of authentic hot food items and snacks, all of which were known to be favourites among students from countries that celebrate the Lunar New Year.

Attendees enjoyed mingling and snacking on delicious treats, including vegetable spring rolls, BBQ pork buns, and Shanghai-style soup dumplings, while participating in games, challenges, and even taking photos in front of the selfie wall.

In addition to the food and activities, the festival also featured a number of student-led initiatives. For example, Ellesse '24 organized a used clothing drive as part of the House Clean Up Challenge, a traditional New Year activity in China. Meanwhile, Evelyn '25 led a food bank donation drive, which generated generous contributions to support those in need.

Throughout the day, over 60 people, including staff, Ms. Kee, students, and their extended families participated in dumpling-making sessions, where they made over 500 handmade dumplings. Additionally, over 20 parent volunteers assisted with decorations, food serving, game supervision, and clean-up.

All in all, over 200 students showed up to enjoy the hot snacks and over 500 pre-ordered dumplings! There were over 25 types of hot snacks, and over 1000 individual portions were served. The festival was a true celebration of the Lunar New Year and all its traditions and was made possible thanks to the generous support of the Chinese Food and Culture Fund. As the night came to a close, fireworks were set off to cap off a memorable and joyous celebration.
