OE Overnights

By Alaina Robertson

On Friday, October 24, Outdoor Education students from Mr. Yantha's C class, Ms. Robertson's D class and Mr. Andras' E class went on their first overnight of the year.

The students had prepared themselves weeks prior by learning how to use camping stoves, how to set up tarps and tents and how to canoe. The students also planned their menus for the trip. All three classes left after school on Friday and paddled north up Lake Katchewanooka to the school's Northcote Campus.  Once there, the students set up camp and began to make dinner.  After delicious pizzas or stir fries the evening continued on with star gazing (a perfect night!), night games and campfire time.

In the morning the students awoke to a nip in the air and slowly emerged from their tents. They all made breakfast (oatmeal or egg burritos), cleaned their dishes and their sites and were back on the water for an early departure.

Overall the students had a great time being with their peers and using the skills that they have been practicing since the start of the year.
