Guest Instruction in Our Tipi

The workshops took place in our beautiful tipi at the north end of our campus. Although the days were cool, a warm fire helped to keep everyone comfortable.
TRACKS instructors Lance and Heathyr were joined by an Dorothy Taylor, an Anishnaabeg Elder from nearby Curve Lake. Lance and Dorothy shared perspectives and knowledge through stories and song, and helped LCS students make a connection between themselves and the land and water that surrounds them. The workshops started with a traditional Mohawk and Ojibwe smudging ceremony and opening. Lance, Dorothy and Heathyr then led students through Aboriginal teachings with the main message that students should establish a duty of care for the land and water, and to say ‘thanks’ for the benefits that these things provide.
