Out in the Community

Students spent their weekend spreading holiday cheer while volunteering during two separate community service opportunities. Students prepared and served lunch at the Lighthouse Community Centre in Peterborough on Saturday. Students did everything from chop vegetables, prepare snack bags and serve the meal to people in need of a nice warm meal. It was a really nice way to spend the day and everyone involved worked really well.

Another group of students helped spread the holiday cheer with the Battered Moms and Tots program at Woodhaven. The Battered Moms and Tots program is a charitable program, held at Woodhaven Country Lodge that helps abused women in the Kawartha area. It works as an independent program to give the women and children who are victims of domestic violence a home for one weekend every year. Over the course of the weekend, the families are treated to numerous Christmas activities that include: playing in the hot-tub, building ginger bread houses, playing in the snow, playing with horses in the stable, playing pool and numerous other activities. All of these things help the mothers unwind and the children have fun.
