Athletics Action

1st Boys’ Hockey
Travelling to Toronto to face De La Salle College in CISAA Sr. Boys Hockey action, the boys in red and green new the importance of the two points that were to be contested; that is, important points for play off qualification.

With only eight forwards, all players knew that they had to play with intelligence, discipline and intensity; and they did not disappoint. Opening the scoring was Joe Gennaro, on a lovely and most unselfish play by Paras Cheema.  DLS responded, but then captain Taylor Walsh rocketed a blast from the point on the power play to make it 2-1. Gennaro scored his second of the game as time expired at the end of the second period. Then again, DLS responded to make it 3-2. Led by Neven Ferguson, Lakefield held the fort, maintained puck possession and Jeff McCaw scored on the empty net with three seconds left in the game. Final score LCS 4 - DLS 2.

Jr. Girls’ Volleyball
On Wednesday February 1, the Jr. Girls’ Volleyball team travelled to Albert College in Belleville to participate in a tri-meet against Albert College and St. Mildred's-Lightbourn School.  The first game against Albert was incredibly close, with both teams battling back when down a few points.  LCS took the first game 25-22.  LCS came out strongly in the second set and was able to come out with the win by a score of 25-16.

In the first game against St. Mildred’s, LCS picked up momentum early and came out a 25-15 win.  Strong serving definitely helped in scoring some quick points.  In the second game, LCS was unable to find the momentum to close out the match and lost 21-25.  In the third and deciding game to 15, the LCS girls knew they had to gain some early points, yet struggled and found themselves down 2-8.  Despite this they battled back, found more energy, and won the third game 15-12. The coaches are proud of how the team played today and are well prepared to travel to face Trafalgar Castle at home on Friday February 3.
