1st Boys’ Hockey
As the coaches have learned this season, our team has always responded to poor performances with a determination to succeed and a “bounce back” that is second to none.  Thus, upon being challenged by the coaches to not only play better than they did a few days earlier at UCC, but to also use the energy from the family and friends at the game towards a positive performance, the boys in red and green came out with possibly their best performance of the season, earning a hard fought and well deserved 1 - 0 victory over Trinity College School.

Tommy Quick and Brendan Rutherford, call ups from the Jr. Boy’s Hockey team, provided well needed depth to the forward crew, the team controlled much of the play with strong puck possession and when without the puck were able to defend very effectively.

Keith Forsythe inspired the team with his physical and clean play and, as always, when called upon Neven Ferguson was a true star in goal, earning his first complete game shut out of the year.

Justin Gallant scored the only goal of the game, mid-way through the second period on a broken play at the end of a power play.

All six defenders played with composure, all sets of forward played responsibly resulting in LCS temporarily capturing second place in the east division, almost guaranteeing a play off birth on March 1.

1st Alpine Racing
The 1st Alpine Racing team finished the CISAA season in fine form on a beautiful winter day at Alpine Ski Club in Collingwood. With a fresh layer of snow on the slopes the team was treated to ideal conditions for our last race which was a combined GS and Slalom event.

The School Trained boys had an excellent day with solid runs by Max Brandes placed 22nd, Sam Bricker 23rd and Magnus Hepburn 27th, in a field of 74 racers!

The School Trained Girls (previously Level 1) were on fire and won the Championship with Keely Matsusaki leading the way to Gold! Keely placed 1st, Juliette Polito 2nd, Philine Hoyer 4th and Roxane Piret 22nd in a field of 64 Girls!

Loan Open Female athlete Betsy Macdonnell had two solid runs and finished in 22nd out of 67.

Finally, Scott Thompson nailed two exceptional runs finishing the day more than 3 full seconds ahead of the next closest skier, winning the race and capturing the Individual CISAA Gold Medal! He led the Open Male athletes to a third place finish on the day with Noah Storey placing 7th and Chris Moody in 17th.

The coaches wish to congratulate all graduating students for there exceptional efforts throughout this season and all of the leadership,  improvement and hard work over the years at LCS. Scott, Chris, Sara, Juliette, Philine, Kristian and Conor - Thank You!

The School Trained Females (Juliette, Philine, Sara, Keely and Roxane) and Open Individual Athlete Scott Thompson are now on to the OFSAA Championships at Blue Mountain on February 26-28. Good luck!

Jr. Girls’ Volleyball
On Wednesday, February 15, the Jr. Girls' Volleyball team hosted Toronto Montessori School. LCS had a bit of a slow start in the first game, but with consistent serving by Janelle Lawes the team started to build momentum and came back from being down a few points.  LCS won the first game 25-17.

In the second game LCS had a very strong start and despite TMS coming back with some strong plays, LCS was able to hold onto the lead and won the game 25-17.  Charlize Avon started our third game off by earning 7 straight points off her serve.  Strong serving combined with some great hits by Captain Anna Rasmus resulted in LCS winning the third and final game 25-10.  We were so pleased to have Anna for this game as she headed off to Argentina on exchange that evening.  We hope she has an amazing experience and that the team will miss her.

LCS is looking forward to their final league game on Wednesday, February 22 on home court against Pickering College.  This will be a challenging match and will determine final standings going into playoffs.
