1st Girls’ Softball
Coaches: Jen Horrigan, Sarah Leaper
Nervous but excited to play their first game - the very first girls' softball team in LCS history came out swinging in their inaugural game against Holy Trinity School on Wednesday afternoon. Claire Martin pitched an outstanding game, striking out many of Holy Trinity's batters. All of the athletes on the team played with their heads and their hearts and ended up winning the game 20 runs to 7. We couldn't be more proud and are looking forward to more exciting games as the spring continues. Our next home game will be Wednesday May 3 at 3:30pm at Douglas Field in Lakefield.

1st Boys’ Tennis
Coaches: Derek Doucet, Sarah Thompson, Sam Wilson
On Wednesday, the 1st Boys’ Tennis team travelled to Toronto to play against Ridley College and Greenwood College School at the Mayfair Parkway Club. After some very tough losses last week against Upper Canada College, the boys were eager to get back on the courts and make the changes they knew they were capable of.

Our first matches against Greenwood were very exciting to watch. The spectacular teamwork from our doubles teams - Nicolas Small and Max Brandes in 1st Doubles, and Jackson Page and Christian Otto as 2nd Doubles - paid off as they defeated their opponents 8-4 and 8-3 respectively. Our singles players took a little longer to find their rhythm, and unfortunately, it came a little too late. We lost 2-3 overall to Greenwood.

Against Ridley, we decided to make a few changes to our roster. Alex Kam remained as 1st Singles while Max Brandes moved up to 2nd Singles, and Robin Anstoetz played 3rd Singles. All three players pulled up their socks and brought some fantastic tennis to the courts. Alex was hitting some huge first serves combining them with some unbelievable plays at the net; unfortunately, however, his opponent came out on top. Max was a force to be reckoned with from the baseline. Remaining steady and consistent, he won 8-2. Robin's forehand was unstoppable today as he defeated his opponent 8-3.

Our doubles players were also on fire against Ridley. Shunya and Nicolas played a very tight match in 1st Doubles bringing them to a tiebreaker. The crowds were tense as we watched the tiebreaker unfold, but sadly, they lost 3-7. Our 2nd Doubles, Christian and Jackson, remained consistent and powerful as a unit. They defeated their opponents easily 8-1.

All the boys gave their best, they supported each other and  played with great sportsmanship. We look forward to two matches next week against RSG and TCS.

1st Girls’ Soccer
Coaches: Janice Runza, Danielle Labrosse
On Friday April 21, the 1st Girls’ Soccer team competed in the annual Trent University Girls High School Tournament.

Game 1 vs. St. Peter's Secondary School
The girls were up bright and early to be the first on the field. We knew that St. Pete's would likely be the toughest competition we would face in the tournament as they have lots of speed, technical expertise, and have many girls who play together outside of the school team. LCS battled and became stronger at communicating and learning to use the space between players to make runs, but unfortunately could not overtake St. Pete's and lost by a 4-0 score.

Game 2 vs. Thomas A. Stewart Secondary School
During their second game, the girls became stronger as a unit and it was clear they were getting used to their positions and working alongside their teammates to maintain their shape/formation.  The improvement in their level of play, both individually and as a team, was obvious and LCS was able to come away with a tie at 1-1.  A huge shout out to Sophie Welch, our goal scorer.

Game 3 vs. R.S. McLaughlin
Despite being sore and tired, the girls had very high spirits entering our last game of the day.   During this final match the team became stronger at passing, communicating, and making plays. Clara Mindjimba was the first to score which she did easily off a penalty kick allowing LCS to gain an early lead.  With Clara's speed, technical skill, and support of her teammates, Clara was able to put another in the net to make the final score of the game 2-0 for LCS.  A shout-out to Sophie Milburn for earning a shut-out!

As coaches we had a wonderful day and are so proud of the girls’ dedication and positive attitudes.

Jr. Girls’ Soccer
Coaches: Laura King, Emily Pederson
The sun was shining as the Jr. Girls’ Soccer team took the field at St. John's Kilmarnock on Wednesday afternoon. The girls were off to a good first half, dominating much of the play and impressing us with their determination on the field. Unfortunately, the girls were down 1-0 at half time. With an awesome second-half goal scored by Adrienne Cross and despite SJK scoring 3 more goals, the LCS girls played their hearts out and left their coaches feeling very proud of this team. The team’s goalie, Maggiemae Jones, made many impressive saves and all the girls put forth a great effort.

1st Girls’ Soccer
Coaches: Janice Runza, Danielle Labrosse
Despite the weather and soggy field conditions, Lakefield College School's 1st Girls' team took on Albert College from Belleville on April 19.  LCS had a very strong first half, with Frederique Roy being the first to score.  Albert stepped up to the challenge and consistently battled back.  LCS stayed strong and seemed to work better together as the game progressed, with Sophie Welch strong wing play followed by an impressive finish, and then Roy adding to the score again.  Albert fought back in the box and scored, with Nikki Cannon matching it, and then Roy scored to make it a hat trick and a 5-1 final for LCS.  After only being on the field together as a team for one practice, the coaches are extremely proud of how the girls worked together to build strength both individually and as a cohesive unit.

Jr. Girls’ Soccer
Coaches: Laura King, Emily Pederson
The Jr. Girls’ Soccer team took the field on the cold and rainy afternoon of Wednesday, April 19, where they met with Albert College for their first game of the season. The game began with strong defence and offence as both teams were hungry for the balI. It wasn’t until halfway through the first half that the first goal of the season was scored by Stephanie Parent .  This was followed by three more goals by Charlize Avon, Adrienne Cross and Madia McGowan.  It was clear by the end of the first half that the rain did not pour on their positive attitudes, as they were supporting each other on and off the field. The second half came more successful than the first as more girls stepped up to the challenge and our very own exchange student, Eva Terrasa, scored two goals. Unfortunately, this will be her first and last game of the season as she leaves Friday to go home to Spain. Our other goals were scored by Lily Coates, Ella Shanahan-Guay, Fallen Dennis and two more goals by McGowan for a hat trick. Way to go girls!
